WEST PALM BEACH -- A veterinarian who stole three show horses and
spray-painted one to hide its identity pleaded guilty Thursday to 13 charges, including
felony cruelty to animals, grand theft and burglary.
Cathy Crighton, 46, of Palos Park, Ill., must spend two years on house arrest
followed by eight years probation, said state Circuit Judge Jorge Labarga.
Crighton plans to return to her home state to serve the sentence, defense
attorney Kelly Landers said. She must pay more than $100,000 in restitution and
cannot own animals for at least two years.
