"The Fur's flying
Re: The New Eco-Colonialism, June 8

In their condemnation of environmental groups opposed to
the seal hunt, Heather Myers and Tracy Summerville
haven't addressed concerns about the cruelty and suffering
involved in trapping wild animals.

Historically, native people have suffered at the hands of those
who control the fur trade.  They have been deliberately used
to protect the far-more profitable fur factories that native
people receive no economic benefit from. Suggesting native
people can only survive through trapping wildlife and hunting
seems to imply that they cannot pursue other forms of viable
livelihoods.
