A Flintville man, who had been charged in January with animal cruelty following the starvation of his dog, plea bargained last Tuesday, and among other penalties, was sentenced to serve jail time.
Dennis Ray Price, 34, of 66 Brighton Road, received an 11-month, 29-day sentence.
"Six months of that is jail time. The rest of the sentence would be on parole," said Martha Richards, an investigator with the Humane Society of Lincoln County.
Price also must pay for court costs, make a donation to the shelter, pay the veterinarian, Dr. Farrar, $142 and may not have animals for 11 months and 29 days.
According to a spokesperson for circuit court, Price has already served time, as of Tuesday, from March 18, 2004 to June 1.
Price faces charges stemming from the Humane Society's discovery of his skeletal boxer, which was unconscious and foaming at the mouth. The dog died just minutes after shelter workers rescued him and laid him on Dr. Farrar's exam table.
"The Humane Society does make a tangible difference," Richards said.
