Police seize truck of 101 monkeys en route across border

Lang Son, June 7 (VNA) - Police and rangers in the northern border province
of Lang Son on Sunday captured a truck carrying 101 long-tail monkeys en
route to China.

The journey had caused 65 primate deaths, police said, adding that the rest
were handed over to the Wildlife Centre under the Ministry of Agriculture
and Rural Development on Monday. Police also said the animals will be
released to the jungle soon.

Only after shooting out the two rear tires of the truck, had police stopped
the vehicle and confiscated the monkeys as the driver fought fiercely and
tried to outrun the authorities, the police said.

The driver and the wildlife smugglers are being hunted by the police.--
