Dear Friends,

Sadly last Friday, the Illinois House of Representatives FAILED the horses by
not passing the bill to ban the slaughter of horses in Illinois for human
consumption! Therefore, the DeKalb horse slaughter plant will reopen soon!

The following Representatives spoke against the bill to ban the slaughter of
horses for human consumption and urged fellow representatives to vote "NO" on
HB 649:

Rep. Charles Morrow III (D-Chicago), Rep. Frank Aguilar (R-Cicero), Rep.
Robert Pritchard (R-Sycamore), Rep. Bill Black (R-Danville), Rep. Jim Sacia
(R-Pecatonica) and Rep. Rich Brauer (R-Petersburg)

Rep. Bob Molaro (D-Chicago), Rep. Elizabeth Coulson (D-Glenview) and Rep.
John Fritchey (D-Chicago) were the only humanitarians who spoke in favor of this
important humane bill on the House floor.

Please visit http://www.barntowire.com/stophorseslaughter-Illinois-reps.html

or write him/her with your appreciation!

However, if your representative voted against this humane legislation, please
consider writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper/s about how
he/she supports horse slaughter, and urge your fellow constituents to vote
him/her out of office when re-election time rolls around. Please visit
http://www.disastercenter.com/illinois/media.html for contact info. for your local
press, and please visit http://www.vote-smart.org/ to find out when your
Representative is up for re-election.

FYI - Please see Jim Sacia's letter to the editor in today's Chicago's Sun
Times at:
http://www.suntimes.com/output/letters/cst-edt-vox04a.html. If you are his
constituent, please consider responding to him or the Sun Times.

Lastly, SHARK sincerely appreciates all the hard work you put into this
campaign, and please know that we will continue to work for the horses until horse
slaughter is illegal!
