THE RSPCA has welcomed a Queensland Police Service decision to appeal the
sentences given to six Townsville-based soldiers who pleaded guilty to
torturing a litter of kittens in May.
Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson yesterday announced his decision to
appeal on the grounds the sentences imposed on the men were "inadequate".
Each of the six soldiers was fined $2000 for involvement in an Easter
Saturday drinking session in which a litter of three-week-old stray
kittens was tortured and killed in a residential section of the Lavarack
Barracks in Townsville.
