It was an evening of joy and tears Tuesday as the 19 students of the
Senior High Alternative Center's Class of 2004 graduated in a small
ceremony at the Central Administrative Office's boardroom.

Teachers and students pointed out different aspects of their classmates
that endeared them to each other. Principal Stephanie Phillips talked
about Sarah Emma Hansen's love of animals, a love that grew to the point
of Hansen becoming a vegetarian and protesting in front of a local
restaurant with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals during her
high school years.

"This is a young lady who lives by her convictions," Phillips said.
