AR-News: (JP) Kirin Brewery produces cow immune to BSE

Kirin Brewery Co. has succeeded in producing a cow through genetic
manipulation that is immune to bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or BSE,
sources said Sunday.

According to the sources, the cow does not have the prions naturally
found in animals that could cause mad cow disease. The brewer obtained
the results in joint research with U.S. biotechnology company Hemateck
LLC, based in Connecticut.
