WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Government assertions on Monday there was no
evidence linking a recently condemned Texas cow to mad cow disease were
challenged by consumer groups demanding more information about a U.S.
Department of Agriculture internal investigation.

The USDA has been criticized for failing to test a 12-year-old cow at a
Texas slaughterhouse on April 27 after the animal showed symptoms
associated with mad cow disease.

The incident was the department's second high-profile blunder in its
handling of mad cow disease in less than a month.
