Turns out things have changed. Both contacts in Haiti now tell us it's
too dangerous for them to openly go up against the people who captured
the dolphins. Get the impression that neither of them wants to take the
risk of being seen with Ric, thereby showing their opposition to the
capture, and the person who might otherwise have been a logical choice
in terms of receiving copies of our letters is now asking that we don't
email her. She is simply too scared to be directly associated with this
campaign. "Too many kidnappings and killings," are her exact words.
Would have been great to have had someone there to lead, or at least be
openly part of, this campaign, but the locals are just too afraid, and
probably with good reason. Life is cheap in this part of the world and
apparently the people behind the captures are very powerful. Two
foreigners were kidnapped a few days ago and Ric was advised not to come
for this reason. He left anyhow but asked to let you all know that it
would be a very big help in securing his safety that as many people as
possible send a letter to the Minister, to show them that the outside
world is watching.
