A/w local OKC weekend hunting news:
The largemouth bass virus that hit Okla.'s Wes Watkins Reservoir last fall
may have done more damage then initially thought a/w state wildlife officials.
They were optimistic that the fish kill in Sept. on the lake was minimal.
But electro-fishing surveys of the lake this spring were "not very
encouraging."
A state wildlife official states "It either got hit hard by drought or the
largemouth bass virus or something. It is going to be down awhile."
An Okla. man on Thursday night caught a flathead catfish on a rod and
reel that is expected to be certified as the new state record.
He caught the 72-lb, 8-oz flathead from Lake El Reno. It beats the
old record of 71 lbs set in 1998.
The biggest flathead ever recorded in the state was a 106-lb brute from
Wister Lake in 1977.
The angler donated the record catfish to the Okla. Aquarium in Jenks, Okla.
He also released the three other fish he caught that evening.
