On April 23, 2004, the Humane Society of the United States named Wayne
Pacelle as its CEO-designate. He is expected to assume his new
responsibilities in May. In his acceptance speech, Pacelle said, “We're
going to be identifying some major campaigns, one of which is going to be
factory farming. It is the greatest abuse of animals that occurs on this
planet. Nine billion animals are killed for food every year, and most of
them are confined in intensive conditions.”

Though HSUS may not take direct physical action against you, if HSUS raises
its activity level, it may incite extremist splinter groups to act.

Do not wait until an activist action forces your hand, prepare in advance.
Be proactive. Denying the possibility that protestors may come to your
doorstep or that arsonists may strike plays directly into the activists’
hands. Don’ t take the “We never did it that way” approach. Prepare for a
worst case scenario.
