Vegan Outreach states, "The vast majority of people in our society have no problem gnawing on an actual chicken leg. Yet we make an issue of honey, despite the fact that insects and other animals are killed in the process of planting, raising, harvesting, and transporting our vegan food."
There's a huge difference between harming nonhumans intentionally and doing so inadvertently. U.S. beekeepers exploit approximately 100 billion honeybees each year. After removing honey in the fall, they give the bees a less nutritious sugar solution, leave them to starve over the winter (when they won't produce honey), or kill them by pouring gasoline over the hive and setting it on fire.
