 REVERENCE FOR LIFE

Douglas Starr addresses public opposition to the use of dogs in vivisection
("A Dog's Life," April

18). It is important to note that other species used in vivisection,
including rabbits, nonhuman primates, rodents, and birds, are able to feel
pain, experience fear, and suffer immensely, too.

Their suffering should be of no less importance to us than that of dogs. One
thing that can't be denied is that vivisection is inherently cruel. And it
is unethical to subject other beings to torture and suffering especially
when they do not consent to it.
