A/w local OKC weekend hunting news:

Okla.'s squirrel season began on May 15th and will run thru Jan. 31
and the combined daily bag limit for fox and gray squirrels is 10.
Many years ago squirrel was a mainstay on one's dinner table and many
Oklahomans first learned to hunt as children by hunting squirrels with a .22
caliber rifle. Once a prime game animal in Okla., squirrel hunting has
dropped
in popularity as the state's deer and turkey populations have increased
dramatically.
However, squirrels are in abundance in this state and there are still plenty
of avid squirrel hunters around that keep the tradition alive.
Good squirrel hunting can be found on most of the state's public wildlife
management areas. One can check the Okla. hunting guide for areas
to hunt.

Okla.'s wild turkey hunt is ongoing. Biologists say that the wild turkey
population in Okla. is at an all-time high. And next year turkey hunters
in SE Okla. will get more days in the field next spring. Hunters in many
other counties will get bigger bag limits.
Because of the growing turkey population in the state, the no. of counties
where big toms can be taken will be expanded next year.
The spring turkey season in SE Okla. will also be increased by one week.
The hunting dates will be the same as last year.
A wildlife official states "The population of Eastern birds has increased
the
last five years to the point where we can now expand the season. However,
the bag limit will remain at two."

                                                                       For
the Animals,

                                                                       Jana,
