Three men have been questioned by police after a mutilated greyhound was
found dumped alive on a mountainside.
The black and white dog was found “extremely distressed” with a hole in its
head and both ears missing, the RSPCA said.
The charity branded the incident “barbaric” and said the animal may have
been a racing dog, which would have had tattooed ears to identify it.
A spokeswoman said the three men attended a police station voluntarily.
The dog was found by a member of the public who was walking their own pet on
a mountainside between Fochriw and Bargoed (both corr) in the Rhymney (corr)
Valley, south Wales, on May 2. It was taken to a vet by a dog warden and put
down.
A post mortem examination revealed that the dog had severe brain damage, and
a metal shard was found in its cheek.
The RSPCA and Greyhound Rescue Wales last week launched a joint appeal for
information about the incident.
A file of evidence is set to be submitted to RSPCA headquarters, the charity’
s spokeswoman said.

The question is not can they REASON, nor can they TALK, but can they SUFFER?"
