By STAFF REPORTS
FAST-PACED, high-energy and animal-free, the Stars of the Moscow State Circus
swings into town for two performances May 21 at Oakland's Kaiser Convention
Center.
People entertaining people is the theme of this new-age circus, which
features feats by daredevils from the former communist country -- with nary an
elephant, lion, tiger or other animal in sight.
Instead, the center ring boasts
European-flavored performances with world-class acrobats, clowns, jugglers,
aerialists and trapeze artists whose common goal is to elevate the artistry and
theater of the circus.
Drawing on the dramatic and theatrical, the Stars of the Moscow State Circus
eschews the gaudiness of mainstream circuses and uses lighting, a single
center ring and intimate seating to focus attention on the artists, circus
officials say.

"The day may come when the rest of the animal creation may acquire those
rights which never could have been withholden from them but by the hand of
tyranny. - Jeremy Bentham 1748 - 1832
The question is not can they REASON, nor can they TALK, but can they SUFFER?"
