Dear Friends,
You have received SHARK E-mail updates on a number of issues in the past few
weeks, and I want to quickly update you as to where they are at.
First, the following is a message received from Cleveland Hopkins Airport
Commissioner Fred Szabo regarding deer located on airport property:
Mr. Hindi: The combined efforts of Cleveland Hopkins Airport employees and
members of the USDA has resulted in the successful relocation of approximately
18 deer from a construction area at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
The deer had become trapped in an area between the permanent airport fence and
a temporary construction fence which was erected as part of the extension of
the runway 6L/24R from 7,000 feet to 9,000 feet. During the past several
weeks, Airport Operations and Engineering personnel alternately closed off and
temporarily opened portions of the fenceline in order to provide the opportunity
for the deer to return to the Metroparks area on the southeast corner of the
airport. The temporary construction fence has now been permanently removed and
the airport perimeter fence has been raised from 8 feet to 10 feet in order
to prevent deer from reentering the area. Hopkins officials are pleased that
we were able to remove the deer without using lethal measures. Fred Szabo.
END OF MESSAGE
Congratulations on helping to convince Cleveland Airport administrators to
rethink their plan to kill these deer! Yet again, your involvement in writing
those letters and E-mails and making calls has saved lives!
Mr. Szabo deserves a lot of credit for not simply taking the easy way out
with deer, like so many other places have. I hope you will drop him a quick
E-mail thanking him. His E-mail address is FSzabo at clevelandairport.com
Also to be congratulated is the gutsy informant who got past the fear of
losing his/her job to do the right thing. The informant must remain anonymous,
but I have passed along the congratulations of all of those who care about
animals. The world needs more people like this.
Moving on, the issue that led to our involvement in the airport issue, the
Akron deer slaughter in the Metro Parks, is just getting warmed up. You can see
video footage from our undercover video cameras at www.AkronDeerTorture.com.
You will recall that we now have official documents showing that Metro Parks
rangers and the animal serial killer Anthony DeNicola purposely and illegally
took our confiscated equipment from a Metro Parks evidence locker and deleted
the documentation. There was also serious physical damage to some of the
recorders. It's called Evidence Tampering, and that is a felony in Ohio.
Furthermore, there is no question in my mind that there are more people involved in
this criminal behavior that have been named so far.
Interestingly, the Akron prosecutor has so far chosen NOT to prosecute. He
is claiming that we need to travel to Akron to file a complaint. This is quite
frankly a load of bull. He has the information he needs from the official
reports. However, we are going to turn the prosecutor's request into a case of
"be careful what you wish for."
He wants us to come out? OK – we are going to do just that! In a couples
weeks we will go to Ohio to file our complaint. While in Ohio I intend to
address the Akron City Council about the slaughter, and if possible the Solon City
Council. Located located near Akron and Cleveland, Solon is also planning to
slaughter deer. Solon's city council have discussed how they might deal with
the "SHARK factor." They are worried about our undercover video cameras.
Perhaps Solon should simply not act cruelly and disgracefully, instead of being
worried about exposure for animal cruelty. If Solon doesn't kill deer, it
council doesn't have to worry about our cameras.
While we are in Akron, we'll hold another press conference, either in front
of the Akron prosecutor's office, or perhaps again in front of the Metro Parks
headquarters. The last time we did that the Metro Parks folks literally
cleared out their headquarters before we got there. What a laugh that was! The
place was deserted! So stay tuned for further word on this matter. We intend
to see that the truth comes out, and that the guilty are exposed and punished.
Moving on, thanks to everyone who contacted self-proclaimed horse rescuer
Donna Ewing on the issue of whether she has ever sent horses to horse slaughter.
I read her denial, and I am absolutely unconvinced. We continue to develop
information on this matter, and you will hear more about this.
You may have noticed that she did not respond to the question as to whether
she wears furs. Her claim about the "need" for horse slaughter is ludicrous.
There are a number of other issues that have arisen about Ms. Ewing's ethics
and practices, and as soon as possible we will be sending you more information.
For now, however, let us celebrate the lives of the airport deer. Those
beautiful creatures are alive today because of those who care, and that includes
you!
Kindest Regards,
Steve Hindi
