Rebecca Knabenshue recommends that all students be required to dissect a frog.
"You learn a lot about their bodies and what goes on inside," the
seventh-grader at St. Matthew Catholic School in South Bend said. "It's
similar to our bodies."
...
Ecenbarger and Jan MacLean, executive director of curriculum and
instruction at School City of Mishawaka, both said there are some good
computer simulations of dissection available now.
MacLean said the district now is reviewing its science curriculum and that
she would not be surprised if some virtual dissection makes its way into
the curriculum.
"If there is a virtual way, we would probably use it," she said. "It's
(dissection) expensive, and there are animal rights."
