A DOG that savaged an eight-year-old boy on the face and body had been aiming
for his throat, his distraught mother said on the Gold Coast today.
Matthew Salmon is in a stable condition in the Gold Coast Hospital after a
series of operations to repair tears to his face, arms and legs.
No details of the extent of the medical procedures have been released but his
mother, Michelle Salmon, said he was coping quite well despite
three-and-a-half hours of plastic surgery.
"Two of the bites went straight to the bone in the inner leg and are about
half the size of a fist and his face is torn and his arms have had surgery done
to them," she said.
"But he's coping quite well – he's scared of dogs, of course."

"The day may come when the rest of the animal creation may acquire those
rights which never could have been withholden from them but by the hand of
tyranny. The question is not can they REASON, nor can they TALK, but can they
SUFFER?"
Jeremy Bentham 1748 - 1832
