"Why is PETA hoping to discourage husky hunks from hankering after
hamburgers? The standard American diet of meat, dairy products, and eggs
all of which are packed with cholesterol and saturated fat has produced a
nation that's bulging at the seams."
--- from www.
PETA.org
Ingrid Newkirk
President of PETA
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
"the woman behind the most successful radical group in the US"
our Special Guest as
Go Vegan Texas! Turns Two
Monday at 11am (CDT) on KPFT
90.1 FM-Houston and 89.5 FM-Galveston
& focus on PETA's newest anti fat campaign:
"It¹s really that simple: Meat-eaters are fatter.
The only regimen that¹s been proven to take weight off
and keep it off is a low-fat vegan diet."
"Veg Eye for the Fat Guy:"
Advice for the "Flab Five" Celebrities:
Michael Moore: Looks like the Downsize This author has been doing is too
much supersizing. The "awful truth" is that animal products are packed with
fat and cholesterol. Before he gets too big for his britches, Moore should
cut out the "stupid white meat" and embrace tofu, the "other white meat."
Luciano Pavoratti: This living legend is living large. He's three tenors
rolled into one!
Aria worried about your cholesterol, Luciano? Pitch the prosciutto and
start singing the praises of vegan pizza.
John Goodman: TV's West Wing senator looks like he's been indulging in too
many buffalo wings. A favorite on both the big and small screen, Goodman
will be too big for any screen if he doesn't act fast. Here's the skinny.
Even skinless chicken has as much cholesterol as beef and is 23 percent fat
in a percentage of calories. The Raising Ariziona star should do more
grazing and less braising.
Rueben Studdard: If the "Velvet Teddy Bear" doesn't want to be known as the
"Velveeta Teddy Bear," he might want to idle his meat and dairy
intake."Simon Says" you can fly without wings if you eat like a bird ---
lots of grains, nuts, and whole fruits.
John Madden: If this Monday Night Football host really wants to tackle his
weight problem, he should take a page from of the PETA. Pass on the
"turducken" and rush for the salad bar. And because eating meat clogs the
arteries to all organs, (not just the heart), Madden may find he can score
more touchdowns off the playing field if he switches to a vegan diet.

"Fearing that some of today's biggest celebrities are in danger of cutting
their careers short with their unhealthy lifestyles, PETA wants to help them
slim down before they become too much of a good thing." PETA's website is
offering these "five larger-than-life stars a meat-free makeover that will
help them look and feel like new men.
"These lucky stars will be receiving PETA's "Veg Eye Makeover Kit,"
including copies of PETA's vegetarian starter kit, which is chock-full of
easy tips on how to switch from meaty to meatless; The PETA Celebrity
Cookbook, which makes vegetarian cooking super simple; and samples of
delicious, low-fat vegetarian food, including "fib ribs," "fakin' bacon,"
and Tofurky.
We will discuss PETA's Veg Eye for the Fat Guy campaign with Ingrid Newkirk,
president of PETA, no stranger to radical approaches for getting attention
focused on vegan and animal rights issues as PETA takes on big fat, the
obesity epidemic sweeping the country, on its way to surpassing smoking as
the no. 1 preventable killer.
To be considered obese, more than one-third of a person's body weight must
be made up of fat. A whopping 34 percent of al Americans are obese, and
the problem is getting worse, not better."
Ingrid will also talk about PETA's other ongoing grass roots campaigns:
Kentucky Fried Cruelty, Iams.Cruelty, PetCo Cruelty, ColumbiaCruelty. We
will hear about PETA's newest video, Chew on This! Maybe it's Time to Go
Vegertarian which can be seen on www.peta.org.
Co-hosting our birthday special are two members of the Go Vegan Texas!
Collective on Animal Rights: Rhea Green, founder and director of In
Solidarity of Animals, and Vivian Farrell, founder and director of Fund 4
Horses, who will give us an update on the remarkable developments this past
week concerning HR 857, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, moving
us a few steps closer to taking horses out of the human food chain.
Thank you for joining us today as we celebrate two years of cruelty-free
programming on the airwaves of KPFT...and thank you, our loyal listeners,
for your great support of our efforts to raise awareness about the abuse of
animals in the food, clothing, entertainment and research industries.
