Animal-rights activists participating in the World Week for Animals in
Labs gathered yesterday outside the HUB to protest treatment of laboratory
animals and publicize the controversial background of the UW's chief
veterinarian.
Hoping to draw attention to animal-rights issues, the Campus Animal Rights
Educators (CARE) and the Northwest Animal Rights Network (NARN) planted
2,000 orange flags on the HUB lawn to symbolize laboratory animals that,
according to the Stop Animal Exploitation Now group, are unaccounted for
in UW research statistics.
