Authorities zero in on suspected cockfight killer

Watsonville police called for extra help from the
Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office S.W.A.T. team early
Saturday morning during a major search for a man
wanted in connection with a recent homicide in Las
Lomas.
About 20 members of the S.W.A.T. team and about 20
Watsonville police officers, ranking officers and
detectives zoomed in on Meadow View Apartments on
Misty Glade Lane at Quiet Meadow Drive about 7 a.m.
Saturday. Once in place, S.W.A.T. team members
conducted a highly sophisticated, door-to-door,
floor-to-ceiling search of numerous apartments in
hopes of sniffing out Javier Vaca, Watsonville police
Capt. Manny Solano said.
Vaca, 25, is wanted for questioning in the March 5
fatal shooting of a Las Lomas man at 244 Hall Road.
The shooting occurred following an argument over an
illegal cockfight.
