A/w local OKC weekend hunting news:
Oklahoma hunters have until this May 14th to apply for the state's controlled
hunts in the upcoming season and state wildlife officials are encouraging
hunting to apply at the wildlife web site. Booklets are also available with
lists of hunts. Most can be found at hunting and fishing license dealers
across the state.
Hunters are selected in a random drawing. A $5 fee is also charged.
The most popular controlled hunts each year are the big game hunts.
These include deer hunts on the Army Ammo Depot in McAlaster, elk
hunts in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and pronghorn hunts in
Cimarron County.
The chances of winning one of the 24 bull elk hunts in the Wichita
Mountains is 473 to 1.
The most difficult hunt to get is the elk hunts in the Cookson Hills
Wildlife Management Area and the odds for this hunt are 5000 to 1.
Hunters can also apply for coon hunts and turkey hunts and there
are special deer and turkey hunts available for children.
Hunters can apply each year to earn preference points, which increase
their chances to win from year to year.
For the
Animals,
