AR-News: (US-ca) Former LA charity exec pleads no contest to stealing donations

LOS ANGELES -- A former executive at the Los Angeles office of Society for
the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals pleaded no contest Thursday to
charges of stealing nearly $940,000 in donations.

Kenneth Brookwell, a former vice president and chief financial officer at
the organization, is expected to be sentenced to two years in state prison
under a plea agreement, the state Franchise Tax Board said in a statement.
He also must pay full restitution to the charity and tax liability of more
than $138,000.
