>From the latest edition of 'Hope', published by SIMR (Seriously Ill for
Medical Research, a group claiming that vivisection is likely to help
seriously ill patients)

'Although the dissimilarities between animals and humans
sometimes lead us up blind alleys, or cause us to discard
potentially effective inventions, on balance they provide
a significant pointer to future benefits, and prevent us
from testing out substances or procedures which are
potentially harmful'.
Alastair Kent, 'Cutting up animals - for fun or profit',
Hope, No, 51, March 2003, p.6.

Note #1 (not from VIN)
*the writer admits that animal testing 'sometimes lead us
up blind alleys, or cause us to discard potentially
effective inventions', but then says they provide 'a
significant pointer as to harmfulness of substances'.
But the animal testing is only known to be a 'blind alley'
or 'a significant pointer' *after* the product is
subsequently tested on humans, i.e., a judgement on the
reliability of the animal testing can only be made *after*
the human testing, i.e., retrospectively.
In sum, this really means that humans are having drugs
tested on them to determine the consistency of the animal
testing!

Note #2 (from VIN)
* Years ago people used to make statemnts that 'all animals react exactly
the same' and 'we know for sure once we've tried it on an animal'. Now it's
clear to more people that this is obviously wrong, they're cutting their
claims to to try to make them more believable. It's proof we're winning,
and that education as to the failure of vivisection is an effective method.
