"Burlington County Taxpayers Association" is a Fraud
By Kelly Williams
There’s no other way to say it. The "Burlington County Taxpayers
Association" is a fraud.
Recently three politically active Democrats hatched a group with a noble
sounding name trying to trick unsuspecting voters in Burlington County. This has
nothing to do with taxes and everything to do with the most vicious and
deceitful brand of politics.
...
Just a few days ago, Mr. Perr even filed a nominating petition to run in the
June primary for a seat on the Burlington County Democrat Committee from his
new hometown of Medford.
This is also the same Richard Perr who is board chairman of the firm
operating Camden County’s animal shelter under a lucrative no-bid contract with the
Camden County Freeholders. Unfortunately for the animals, his operation has
been condemned by the following humane societies: New Jersey Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Protecting Animals Within Shelters - New
Jersey (PAWSNJ), Compassion for Camden, Inc., the Humane Society of the United
States (HSUS), and the Furry Friends Foundation, for a disgraceful record of
animal cruelty and allowing dogs and cats to be used as experimental test
subjects. The SPCA was forced to sue Mr. Perr and his shelter to stop its
practices of causing suffering and death to adoptable animals. According to
Compassion for Camden, Mr. Perr’s shelter "continually ranks as one of the worst in
the state."
Mr. Perr’s shelter has also been sued three times recently by the State
Division of Civil Rights for illegal racial discrimination.
The adverse publicity concerning Mr. Perr’s shelter is so bad that he
actually changed its name recently from the "Camden County Humane Society" to "The
Humane Society of Southern New Jersey."
It gets worse. In December 2002 a former employee of Mr. Perr’s shelter was
actually charged with making a death threat against a member of a local humane
society who dared to criticize his shelter.
While animal rights activists have pleaded with the Camden County Freeholders
to replace Mr. Perr’s firm, the Democrat Board has turned a deaf ear.
Now, a member of Mr. Perr’s animal shelter board, Kristin Walker, has just
filed a nominating petition to run for Burlington County Clerk as a Democrat.
...
As a longtime resident, I love Burlington County and our high quality of life
here. If I wanted to live under the Camden machine, I'd move there.
However, I purposefully chose to live in Burlington County so I could avoid the high
crime rates, skyrocketing taxes, and sleazy political system found in Camden
County.
Kelly Williams is a resident of Palmyra, in Burlington County.
