HELP US PROTEST THE RE-OPENING OF A BULLFIGHTING ARENA IN OLOT
With your help we will close it down again!!
THE PROBLEM TO TAKE ACTION NOW:
Three years ago, APADOG ANTITAURI managed to close down the Bull fighting arena in Olot, a small town in to the north of Barcelona. The delegates of the opposition won the vote, and the arena was closed. One year ago one of the delegates who is in favour of the bull fights presented a proposal and this time, playing dirty, they won the vote to re-open the bull fighting arena (again there are economical interests behind this).
The first bull fight took place on May 1st 2003. A problem that we thought was solved definitively started over again...the most famous spanish "toreros" came to Olot for the reopening!
The next bullfight will take place in two weeks, again the 1st of May and APADOG ANTITAURI,
the animal protection association of Olot and la Garrotxa, have planned to organise the first anti-bullfighting days in Olot in this year 2004. 30 April there will be speeches and a debate, and 1 May there will be the demonstration with different activities in front of the bullfighting arena.
BUT YOUR HELP IS VERY IMPORTANT. It will take you only a couple of minutes. As Olot is a small and neat tourist place, the Citycouncil will not like at all to become complaint emails from possible tourists. Furthermore the Citycouncil thinks that APADOG ANTITAURI is alone. WE HAVE TO SHOW THEM THAT THEY ARE NOT!
LAST YEAR WE CAME IN THE TELEVISION NEWS AND IN SEVERAL NEWSPAPERS, also thanks to your protest e-mails. More than 1.000 were received in less than one week!. This year lets spread it more widely. THEY HAVE TO RECEIVE AT LEAST 2.000!!. Let's us collapse their e-mails.
Barcelona has been declared anti bullfighting city only a couple of weeks ago. It is not possible to allow that an arena that had already been closed (Olot) can be reopened again, because the Superior Court of Catalonia gives them the right. All our work was for nothing!. Some Laws have to change, other have to be improved and ALL have to be enforced! And it has to be NOW!!.
Please send the following email (or feel free to write what you wish, even in other languages):
Dear Mr. Mayor of Olot,
Some days ago Barcelona has been declared antibullfighting city. We hope that you can learn something and also again declare Olot an antibullfighting city!
As long as you don't declare Olot antibullfighting city for now and FOREVER you can be sure that I will never spend my holiday in your horrible city, or even visit it, as long as these awful bull fights are allowed, and I will inform other people and organisations, through internet, newspaper and other media to do the same.
It is a big shame that you are still so primitive and undeveloped. To enjoy watching others suffering to death you have to be mentally sick. When I hear about this, I am not surprised anymore that so many women in your country are mistreated and killed by their husbands - the administration itself supports and promotes violence and death, even if they are animals.
Is this what you want to teach your children? That violence, blood, death - is fun? To have no respect for animals, nature or other people?
Best regads
