(Au) Rainbow Warrior arrives in Sydney opposing GE (Canada) Brutal seal hunt halted

Rainbow Warrior arrives in Sydney

The Rainbow Warrior arrives in Australia to promote a GE-free future.
Australian food icon Margaret Fulton welcomed the Greenpeace flagship,
Rainbow Warrior, when it sailed into Sydney harbour this morning.

Food icon Margaret Fulton welcoming the Rainbow Warrior. "GE threatens
the future of our food," she said.

The ship is here as part of a global campaign to promote a future free
from genetically engineered (GE) food.

Ms Fulton said that GE threatened the future of our food, not only for
us but also for our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
"It's so important that Greenpeace and the Rainbow Warrior are tackling
this important issue," she said.

The ship arrives just weeks after all Australian canola growing states
rejected the commercial release of GE canola. The debate is now shifting
to GE imports into the Australian food chain.

Greenpeace campaigner John Hepburn said that the biggest GE threat to
Australian food was from imported GE soy. "Up to 300,000 tonnes of GE
soy is imported from the US each year and is contaminating our food by
stealth."

Most of this soy goes into feeding chickens - with Inghams being the
largest user. Woolworths is Inghams largest customer so most chickens
that people buy from Woolworths have been fed a diet of GE feed.

"Most Australian's don't want to be part of this genetic experiment and
would be shocked to know that their Sunday roast and BBQ chickens have
been fed GE," said Mr Hepburn.
