Rocky Mountain Laboratories Resolve Clean Air Act Violations
HELENA - The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) recently
settled an enforcement action with Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML),
Hamilton, Montana, concerning air quality violations of the Clean Air Act of
Montana. RML paid a $15,000 administrative penalty to resolve the
violations.
RML failed to record incinerator data at the frequency required by
their air quality permit. The violations did not pose a threat to human
health and as soon as RML realized that monitoring software was not
immediately available, RML shut down the incinerators and did not operate
them until all the permit conditions were met. The one-hour computer
monitoring data and the source test conducted in October 2002 indicated that
RML was in compliance with all stack emissions.
For more information concerning this enforcement action, please
contact Larry Alheim, DEQ Enforcement Division (406) 444-5328.
