AR-News: Associated Press Correction on HSUS Misquote

Several animal activists, failing to contact HSUS for
verification, have distributed an attack on the
organization because of an article circulated by
Associated Press yesterday.

This AP article incorrectly claimed HSUS was not
against the Canadian seal slaughter.  This is
incorrect.  The HSUS strongly opposes the hunt, and
has joined IFAW in a major campaign to abolish this
slaughter.

Here a correction issued by the Associated Press for
their mistake.

Corrective: Canada-Seal-Hunt Story

Associated Press


TORONTO - In an April 12 story about Canada's annual
seal hunt, The Associated Press erroneously reported
that The Humane Society of the United States doesn't
oppose the hunt.

Spokesman Nicholas Braden said the group is opposed to
any hunting of wildlife for commercial purposes and
also opposes hunting for sports and recreation,
although it has active campaigns only against the most
brutal forms, such as leg hold traps.
