Two West Salem women facing multiple neglect charges for poor care of their
farm animals received a deferred sentence Monday in Polk County Circuit Court
by pleading guilty to three counts of animal neglect.
LeeAnn Lucas, 46, and Gail Solberg, 45, were placed on three years of
probation, and the remaining 17 counts of animal neglect against them were dismissed,
said Tim Park, a Polk County deputy district attorney.
Four llamas and 19 horses were taken from their farm Jan. 21 at 3415 Oak
Knoll Road NW. That was three days after authorities found a stallion dead in a
muddy corral.
A veterinarian who evaluated the horses after they were seized found several
of them to be malnourished and underweight. One horse had a leg injury and one
was pregnant.
