Attempts by The Home Depot in Roseville to keep birds out of the store
have drawn criticism from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals,
which says the chemical being used is cruel and potentially fatal.
PETA said employees and customers have complained about the use of
Avitrol, a pesticide mixed with birdseed that makes birds emit distress
signals to scare others away. The group sent a letter Monday to store
manager Bruce Simon, saying Avitrol causes birds to have violent
convulsions and die.
