The captured lion's new permanent habitat must be revamped because the
current facility is full.

SCOTTSDALE - The mountain lion captured at Sabino Canyon on Friday wasn't the
only one caught off guard when it woke up from sedation that night at
Southwest Wildlife's Rio Verde Sanctuary.
The nonprofit group had agreed last month to provide a permanent home for
mountain lions that the state Game & Fish Department captured near Tucson. The
animals posed a public-safety risk and had been marked for death until
politicians and wildlife groups intervened.
The department agreed to capture them instead, but attempts to snare the cats
failed and cost thousands of dollars a day. On March 28, Game & Fish called
off the search, and Sabino Canyon, which had been closed since March 9, was
reopened Wednesday.
Assuming that meant the lions wouldn't be coming, Southwest Wildlife canceled
plans to build a $46,000 shelter for them.
