COLUMBUS - State wildlife officials have verified that Ohio has at least 105
bald eagle nests this spring, a record number, according to the Ohio
Department of Natural Resources.
"Reaching the milestone of 100 eagle nests is great news for Ohio, especially
considering that only 25 years ago eagles were nearly gone from our state,"
said Steven A. Gray, chief of the Division of Wildlife. "The bald eagle's
success is a good indicator of how habitat in Ohio has improved and of how eagles
have adapted."
ODNR's findings include five nests in Lucas County, three in Wood County, 14
in Sandusky County, and 15 in Ottawa County - including the first active nest
on Middle Bass Island since 1962.
