Micah didn't seem to be getting better. She'd undergone shoulder surgery in
the fall, but hadn't improved much and the pain medication and
anti-inflammatory drugs weren't helping. It was tough for her to get around and do the things
she loved. Maybe it was time to try a different approach.
Like many others, Micah is trying acupuncture in an effort to speed healing
and ease pain. The difference is Micah is a 6-year-old black Lab, and the man
expertly placing the long needles into the skin beneath her coat is
veterinarian Dr. Ian Buffett.
"She's my kid. I'd do anything for her. Honestly," says Micah's owner, Anna
Ritchie. Micah thumps her tail, yawns and eyes the dog-treat canister on the
counter, ready for her post-treatment cookie.
