>From Alka @ PeTA:
We need your help to stop three hideously cruel experiments on monkeys at Columbia University!
Please join PeTA for an important demonstration on Wednesday, April 14th, from 11:45 am 1 pm.
WHERE:
Intersection of Broadway & West 116th Streets (at the ornate 116th Street
Columbia gates)
WHEN:
Wednesday, April 14th, from 11:45 am 1 pm
A veterinarian working at Columbia revealed that primates in Columbias
labs are denied the companionship and mental stimulation they desperately
need. They languish in barren cells of metal and concrete. Then they are
tortured in highly invasive surgeries and denied post-operative
painkillers. These complex and social beings are often so neglected that
many die.
Experimenters at Columbia are 1) causing strokes in baboons by cutting out
their left eyeballs and using the empty eye sockets in their skulls to
clamp a critical blood vessel to their brains; 2) surgically implanting
heavy pipes into the skulls of rhesus macaques to induce stress, to then
study the connection between stress and womens menstrual cycles; and 3)
pumping nicotine into pregnant baboons and their fetuses. There is no
excuse for any of these crude and painful, traumatic experiments.

The demonstration on April 14th will focus on the menstrual experiments.
Look forward to fun and interesting visuals that drive home the point that
Columbia should stop menstrual studies on primates (period!). Please bring
your friends, family, anyone you can! If you need more information on the
April 14th demonstration, feel free to get in touch with me via email
(AlkaC at peta.org) or via phone (office: 757-962-8210 or cell: 757-943-7439).
Thank you for being a voice for the animals.
