The Farmers Federation in South Australia says it's appalled by the sentence
handed down to an animal rights campaigner, convicted of illegally entering a
piggery last year and welding three pens shut.

Ralph Hahnheuser was fined $140 and ordered to pay $30 in damages, but he
says more actions will be planned by animal welfare activists who object to the
conditions in piggeries.

"The code of practice is under review.

"It will come to a head by the end of the year, and what we will see is an
escalation of animal liberation campaigning to try and have the appalling
practice of keeping sows in individual dry sow stalls actually outlawed in this
country, as part of this review of the code of practice."
This is a transcript from the ABC National Rural News that is broadcast daily
to all states on ABC Regional Radio's Country Hour and in the city on ABC
News Radio.
