Canada's seal-killers are anglers out of work for a season, and they're subsidized by Canada's taxpayers to massacre seal pups for the benefit of the fur trade. Seal hunters could be subsdized to do something else that doesn't bring misery to sentient animals, shame on Canada, and disgust to anyone with a modicum of decency.
Your seal hunt isn't morally justified. Seals are not resources or commodities to be traded for the convenience of profit; they're entitled to be left alone. Friends of Animals deplores the seal hunt for the suffering and death it imposes on every single seal.
Your government has the abilitiy to revoke the "charitable status" of Canadian groups that challenge the fur industry. In short, they're gagged which is why the slaughter is observed, but continues without rancor in Canada. Unless and until such rules are successfully challenged as applied to animal advocacy in Canada, we in the U.S. can exert pressure to stop the killing through free speech and boycotts.
