ANGRY residents have opposed plans to create a natural habitat for wildlife
at a historic country house.
Proposals have been put forward to create the environmental feature at
Cusworth Hall.
But locals are opposed to the scheme to create a reed bed, claiming it will
lead to rat infestation and flooding.
The controversial plans would see the creation of the wildlife haven close to
homes on Walsham Drive and Wroxham Way.
However, the scheme has now been delayed by planning chiefs in order for a
site visit to take place.
A 97-signature petition was submitted to Doncaster Council's Development
Control Committee from residents worried that the development could increase the
risk of accidents, lead to hooligans dumping rubbish in the water and clogging
up parking spaces on local roads.
However, Kirsty Stock, speaking for the agents behind the scheme, Scott
Wilson, said the reed beds would provide a valuable ecological habitat for wildlife
such as water voles and birds.
She denied it would mean more rats and said the water table would not be
changed and that digging into the land to create the habitat could mean less
chance of flooding.
