Hello,
Hello to all our animal loving friends.
Wow, it is April already and the South African winter is just around the
corner. ( And so is kitten season ).
We also have our General Elections coming up. Now my dear friends, I have
not gone mad. I have mentioned the elections and kittens in the same
sentence because I believe that there is a definite connection between the
two.
Now is the time to start lobbying your local Councilors to bring out new
Laws to protect our animal friends. Did you know that there are NO LAWS in
this dear old South Africa to stop people from backyard-breeding and selling
the puppies and kittens on street corners?
The time has come for us all to do something drastic. We cannot sit back and
let this cruel practice continue. We must start showing the rest of the
world that we are not a third world Country. Even though we certainly act
like one with our outdated laws and 'I don't care a damn attitude'.
We get complaints on a daily basis about animal abuse. Please help us do
something !! Don't sit there and winge and whine. Contact us and let us do
something constructive . Don't just ignore the problem, it will not go away.
This is really going to be a " I want to get this of my chest" newsletter.
"The day may come when the rest of the animal creation may acquire those
rights which never could have been withholden from them but by the hand of
tyranny. The question is not can they REASON, nor can they TALK, but can
they SUFFER?" -- Jeremy Bentham 1748 - 1832

Toolboxes and 1080
The scandal of how an organization calling itself the Endangered Wildlife
Trust (EWT) is promoting the use in South Africa of a poison so harmful that
it has been banned in the USA for the last thirty years, continues. On 702
Radio last Sunday afternoon, Dr. Nick King of the EWT explained to Tim Neary
how farmers have a 'toolbox' of problem animal control methods and that 1080
poison was merely intended to be 'another tool in the toolbox.'
He was so matter-of-fact about it, and glossed over the moral issues so
smoothly and effortlessly, that few listeners would have realized the true
horror of what he was accepting as normal. Click here for more...
It Is In Your Power To Set Me Free
We all dream about releasing wild animals back to nature, but it is not
quite as easy at it seems - especially not in the case of predators. In most
instances the animals are highly territorial and it almost impossible to
introduce especially captive bred animals into an area where there are
resident wild animals of the same species. Click here for more...

friends have been developed.City license tags for local identification, and

The Family Dog
The family's dog was bought to guard,
Chained to a post in a chilly backyard,
Housed in a shed that was airless and dark,
And every few weeks had a run in the park.
When boredom set in with no fun and no work,
One day it broke loose and went quietly berserk.
Pa couldn't fathom just why it went wild,
As it flattened his wife and then bit his child.
The police were called in to sort out the mess,
And the whole sorry tale was revealed in the press.
The Rescue society was really annoyed,
So, the dog was re-homed, and the owners destroyed.
