April 7, 2004 --  WE ARE a long way from the hunting season, but an
interesting story appeared yesterday stating that whitetail deer cause
close to $59 million in crop damage every year in New York State and there
is a proposal to allow year-round hunting on farmland.

Before the ink was even dry on the study, which was done by Cornell
University, the so-called animal rights people were saying no way. That in
itself was no surprise, but I wound up looking up some web sites on the
animal rights people.
