In the Darwin Magistrates Court a third charge of animal cruelty has been
withdrawn against a company owned by millionaire developer Warren Anderson.
Authorities were called to the Tipperary Wildlife Sanctuary south of Darwin
last October after the manager complained to the Territory Government that food
had run out for a collection of more than 2, 000 exotic anmials, including
pygmy hippos and zebras.
Yesterday two other animal cruetly charges were dismissed.
Mr Anderson's lawyer Philip Dunn QC raised concerns that a separate charge
should exist for every one of the 2, 200 animals according to the Animal Welfare
Act.
But today in court prosecutor Elizabeth Fullerton charged Mr Anderson with
failing to provide appropriate and sufficient food for only two animals - the
southern white rhinos.
Mr Anderson pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The hearing continues.
