[from Ottawa Citizen]

A feature article about Canada's bloody commercial seal hunt spilled on to
the front page of the New York Times yesterday, thrusting the world's
largest producer of seal skins and an industry often criticized for being
barbaric, back into the spotlight.

While the Canadian government has made no recent policy changes to seal
hunting, the article, accompanied by photos of pups being clubbed and
skinned, was also featured on The Drudge Report, a popular online news
site, and was picked up by the International Herald Tribune.

The article looked at an industry experiencing "a quiet boom," which has
been buoyed by new markets in Russia and Poland and supported by seal
hunting quotas that have hit unprecedented highs.
