Dozens of dogs and their owners braved the wet weather for a sponsored walk
to raise cash for an animal charity. Potteries-born TV presenter Wendy
Turner-Webster launched the event, in aid of Alsager Animals in Need, which saw about
60 dogs undertake the five-mile trek.

Audley-based dog and horse grooming centre Woofs & Whinnies organised the
walk, through Audley, Bignall End and Halmerend, to mark a milestone of having
1,000 dogs on its books.

Mrs Turner-Webster, who presents television series Pet Rescue, said: "It's
great to see so many people turn out to help raise money for a good cause. i

"I'm a real animal lover too. I don't eat animals or wear them. I like to
support local charity fund-raisers like this where I can."

Woofs & Whinnies owner Sarah Hursthouse said: "We had been counting the new
dogs on our books since we opened four years ago. We wanted to do something
special to mark it. We are pleased Wendy was able to launch it for us."
