It?s happened again. This time it?s fish that are not safe to eat. For 40
years, homeowners, farmers and industry have been warned. Put toxins in the
ground, air, water and we will destroy our food supply and ourselves.
Today, tuna is unfit to eat and many other seafood and fresh water species
are just OK. Last month, tainted beef, now seafood.
?No, that bottle of organic weed killer is more expensive.? ?I get bigger
crops with Dow?s XYZ.? ?Stockholders want more; stack filters, cut production.?
?I deserve the big bucks; tell my lobbyist to kill that legislation. It?s not
in our best interest.?
A narrow definition of ?best interest? got us where we are. We must change
now. Respect the presence of groundwater. Be active in guiding our community and
state decision-makers. Vote those into office who focus on the country, not
on special groups.
Maya Angelou said it well: ?I?ve learned that making a ?living? is not the
same thing as making a ?life.??
I say, when will all people?s good be each person?s goal so that across the
lands and seas our environment and all creatures remain healthy?
