Acting on an anonymous tip, Nanticoke police discovered the remains of dozens
of mutilated animals Friday in a stone pit near the border of Nanticoke and
Newport Township.
The graveyard was discovered in a wooded area behind West Main Street and
contained 25 to 30 sets of remains of birds, deer, dogs and cats.
"It appears not to be hunters or trappers," said Nanticoke police officer
Kevin Grevera. "There was an altar of sorts discovered."
Grevera said it was possible that these mutilations could have ritualistic
overtones, but he does not know of a specific group in the area.
