united BOYCOTT of the 2004 Athens Olympics, Tourism and Industry-- in the
memory of thousands of Greece's abandoned animals sacrificed in the name
of greed and inhumanity. Certain Greek officials have been viewing this
site dedicated to the innocent victims of Greece's violent brutality,
willful neglect and government indifference.

April 3 2004 UPDATE - GREECE

Greece has been under fire in light of the seeming indifference of the
Greek state and municipal governments referencing animal welfare. We
have read the article about the Samaras debacle and still others,
amusingly indicating that Greece has straightened out her act. Very few
see little proof. Poisonings and other evil and sick crimes perpetrated
against animals have escalated and more and more animals, every day, are
sacrificed in the name of inhumanity.

Now, the already marginalized animal welfare community is being accused
of marketing dogs for their bodies and skins for capitol gain, by
allegedly crazed women missing chromosomes or perhaps desperately needing
estrogen replacement therapy. The scandal hungry Greek press has a pit
bull hold on this ridiculous and reprehensible issue.

Greece, the questionable Cradle of Democracy is turning into a circus or
better yet, an afternoon soap opera viewed on major network TV.

The 2004 Athens Olympic Games will hoist a bright torchlight over the
failures of Greek society and civic institutions to live up to their
obligation as humans to meet the basic, simple needs of dogs and cats,
who are our oldest and most loyal friends and helpers. Without them we
could have not survived the Ice Age or have stored
enough food to build civilization. Without them, there could be no
Greece and no Olympics, past or present.

Fulfilling our obligation to the creatures that share our planet has not
happened .
We fear that perhaps Greece will not be able to successfully fulfill her
promise to advance the standards of animal welfare in her country. It
is sadly evident that our struggle must be a marathon, not a sprint--and
that for us, the Olympic
Games will be not a celebration but an unparalleled opportunity to
educate the Greek public and the world. Anyone, other than God, up to
the job?
