AR-News: (UK)Scottish hedgehog cull gets underway

LONDON (Reuters) - A controversial cull of hedgehogs on two western isles
off Scotland starts today in an effort to protect colonies of wading birds.

The two-month cull on North Uist and Benbecula follows research showing
that vast numbers of the birds' eggs are being eaten by the hedgehogs,
Scottish National Heritage (SNH) said in a statement on Friday.
