[from The Hindu]

IF HUMAN beings have the right to occupy every inch of the earth, so do
animals. Unfortunately, many do not realise this, and do away with them
for various reasons, or use the wildlife for their own benefits.

However, there are some people, including leading personalities of
different fields, who come together to promote for the cause of these
less-fortunate creatures. In recent years, the campaign for animal rights
has gathered momentum. Many countries have even banned the use of animals
in entertainment programmes. Of late, the legislation banning animal
sacrifices became a point of debate at many gatherings in the country.
Meanwhile, many forums have accelerated their drive by staging
demonstrations, organising exhibitions, holding lectures, distributing
pamphlets, and bringing out posters featuring celebrities.

In one such endeavour, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
India (PETA) has brought out a poster, featuring Shilpa Shetty, a popular
Hindi actress, with a message to prevent cruelty to animals. She is also
one among the latest celebrities to speak against this evil.

Shilpa Shetty is dressed in a striped bodysuit, looking like a tiger, and
about to leap through a ring of fire. The tagline reads: `Beaten, lonely
and abused - boycott the circus'. It then leads the people to PETAIndia.com.
